What Are the Eyeglasses?
The notion of an eyeglass in the 18th century originally was based on the idea of a more mature lady or gentleman whose eyesight is perhaps not what it was. But that actually they're being used as pieces of affectation to show that you're supposedly learned when you're not. So there are some accessories for want of a better word of the dandy that then becomes sort of social signifiers, I suppose. Still to come on the History Extra Podcast.
