John Robeson's book, Proofs of a Conspiracy, was written during the French Revolution. He suggested that the Illuminati and Freemasons' goals were to spread anarchy by touting anti-religious ideas later adopted through the Jacobins in France. The book became highly popular among right-winged and conservative thinkers who supported the monarchy and nobility.
