The Legacy of the Past
When I started working on the history of slavery, the trondlantic slave trade and slavery, the focus was mainly on abolition. And there was no particular focus done or link done between what was happening in the Caribbean and how that influence actually abolition and slavery. So who gets left out and who gets integrated into the grand narrative of the nation? My PhD was actually about history, but also about memory and memory studies. The question of memory also had an impact on the kind of archival material that we tend to choose as historians.
