The story of abimelech is no different. We have the stories not of heroes, but of protagonists who aren't necessarily all together. And again, one of the things we find is in this book of judges, this cycle of gods close to his people. Then tragedy befalls them, they repent, they turn back to the lord. They call out to him, and god helps them, and they are restored. The problem is that jeftha sa made a rash vow where he says, god, if you give me victory, whoever comes out of my door, out of the house, when i come back home, i will sacrifice them to you. Which makes no sense
