Is There a Way to Get to the Atlantic Coast?
Early attempts to try to map a kind of route are really the products of imperialism at this time. There was so much debate for about 20 years up until the First World War about where to go with the railroad, what route it would take. The final route of the railroad was not in fact determined until the very, very last years of its construction. So there was this constant kind of improvisation that was going on which I think gives a sense of both how it'll prepare it in some ways the French were to building it.
