We are currently again going through a state of saying, britain needs better vocational and technical education. And you can find parliamentary inquiries from the 18 sixties and 18 seventies when we'd send depositions over to germany. There's tis constant fear about, are we falling behind german manufacturing and vocational qualifications? Is the city too powerful relative to industry? How big are the erm economic divides in britain, and what can we do between them? The one that, again, tends to come up every 30 or forty years, is this balance betweeno openness and integration and national sovereignty.
