The History of French Colonial Conflict
I'm very struck by how much historical depth there is to the present, more than we often talk about or think about. The racism and discrimination that people of Arab origin face in France today comes in part from that tradition. When you look at what happened to the Americans in Afghanistan, I was just constantly being reminded ofwhat happened to the French in Algeria and in China.
