Is the Cold War a Lesson for History?
i think it's a mistake to think that there was unanimity, an all out consensus an american statecraft from 19 forty seven onward. It was actually a lot messier than that. The cold war and containment were deeply contested concepts. And not only did we argue about kind of the how of containment, you know, what our policy should be toward germany or southianom whatever. i think this was actually an area where the argument was a source of strength in the united states.
