Introduction

In this episode, i spoke with courtney carruthers, a professor in the college of fisheries and oceans at the university of alaska fairbanks. During our conversation, we talked about cat shares and we talked about the local, often indigenous, systems that they impact. We also talked about how western scientific methods might be reconciled with traditional ychological knowledge and local cultures. This was a challenging conversation, but i learned a lot, not just about cat shars, but about the nature of local knowledge as a distinct and important paradime for environmental use and management.
