Author argues that some aspects of what we've come to regard as enlightend thought owe a debt to indigenous philosophies, particularly among iroquian and algonquin speaking groups around what's now the great lakes region of canada. He says it takes a very conscious effort to kind of purify that history and turn it solely into a story about things happen on the physical territory of the european continent. And once you accept that, it becomes very important to understand which societies exactly they were interacting with, and what those other non european societies brought to the table.
