From 1966 to 1968 Jiangqing and Lin Biao had been forced to remain strange bedfellows. Mao's old comrades were all out. Maybe with all perceived enemies, either dead in prison, disgraced or disabled, there was no one else to turn on. But then came Lin Biao's fatal error at the plenum held at Lu Shan in August September 1970 following the ninth party congress.
