The Museum of African Capture in Charleston
The museum sits on the site that was previously in the 17 and 1800s, Gadsden's Wharf. Many African captives first step foot in what becomes the United States at that site. The building is raised because "our ground is sacred," says Museum Director John Lomax. People were warehoused because a scarcity would force the price up so they were deliberately starved.
