The next big one in 1943 was tide and that was a combination of these synthetic surfactants and something called builders. In 1946, they brought it onto the test market as a heavy duty detergent. Every year, 50,000 test loads with tide just to make sure we're still up to snuff. The reason why companies prefer detergences is because they can control it a lot more. They don't have to rely on nature. And those detergences aren't great for getting that gray water, getting into the eventual fresh water supply. That's no good for animals and fishes, especially.
