The Roman Army in Rome - A Brief History
Only three of the nine pretorian cohorts are allowed in rome, and they can't carry weapons. So what you had here was effectively a military unit which is not allowed to wear military uniforms. But there are assassination attempts against bynow, augustus throughout his reign. It's quite surprising that the number of them ere recorded. And as time goes on, ike, the pretorian embraces more policing roles.
