The History of Dentistry
Dental care was traditionally limited to pulling teeth, but in the 18th century it became more desirable to look after your teeth and to achieve a good smile. People had worse teeth than ever too because of a combination of sugar consumption and malnutrition - which is not healthy. D-manuables were out, poets wrote poetry warning young girls to look after their hair and their, and their teeth and to brush their teeth. And dentistry was a response actually to all these societal changes. The first dentist was called Pierre Fochard, French.
