The History of Financialization
The 1980s were famously a period of high and volatile interest rates. The volatility created opportunities for people like bond traders who could speculate on what would happen to interest rates the next day. At different moments in history I think both high and low interest rates have been consistent and even conducive to some of these dynamics that we're calling financialization.
