LZ Granderson: There was a whitewashing of Lee's memory going on. He says the effort to venerate Lee was one that as lots of scholars have shown was one that was resisted at a time. LZ: We are still dealing every single day with myth making machines. And so unless you somehow believe African Americans don't count as people in their time, simply not true, but these were uncontroversial.
