The Five Star Movement and the Turnout in the Italian Parliament

The Democrats who are the most important party which are called centre left, in fact I think you'd say a better definition would be to call them a kind of progressive neoliberal party. They ran their election campaign basically as trying to mobilize voters out fear of the danger or maybe even just as they would put it incompetence of the right wing parties. The five star movement did a quite different kind of campaign which was very focused on its economic record in government. So although that wasn't a great result for them he showed a certain ability to mobilize basically southern working class voters. Overall I think beyond the sort of specific tactics of the election what we see is indeed a massive abandonment of electoral engagement by working class
