The Effect of Amputation Levels on Energy Costs
Genes at all reviewed the effect of amputation level on energy expenditure during walking in children. Patients with traumatic BKAs and AKA's have been cited at expending 25% and 65% increased energy above baseline respectively. Sime amputations or ankle disartigulations are the most proximal type of ankle slash foot amputations but are more energy efficient than midfoot amputations. The primary complication is an equinest deformity.
