The Role of Sailors in the Age of Revolution
Sailors are not separate from these wider events, right? You might think they would be. A sailor might have spent many months at sea away from news and communications. But actually, my whole point is that sailors were still very closely connected to these wider transformations of the period. The vast majority actually served very close to Britain,. Even those who didn't still kept in touch with people in Britain through letters and reading newspapers or the like. So sailors, I guess the key thing to say is that they're not separate. They're distinctive, but they's not separate.
