The Death of Judy Garland

Judy Garland died of an accidental overdose on June 22nd, 1969. The Stonewall Inn was a gay bar in the West Village of New York and like most gay bars at that time, it was run by the mafia. A year later, to commemorate what would become known as the Stonewall Riots, gay pride celebrations were launched for the first time. Peter Mack: In their spontaneous refusal to be bullied and criminalized, gays unwittingly launched the modern gay rights movement.
