The Different Moral Theories of Trolley Problems
A trolley problem is a way of comparing what different moral theories might say utilitarian will say you always kill one to save five. Harry Truman's decision to drop an atomic bomb in Japan was very much like a trolley problem, he says. The philosopher Robert Nozick made a big deal about this and said, look, it's wrong of me to push you in front of a train but not wrong for me to allow you to be hit by a train.
