How to Vote for a Member of Parliament

Each state and territory is divided up into electoral divisions. You're voting on who will be the member of parliament for your electorate. If you leave a box blank, tick a box instead of numbering it, or draw that fun picture so many blokes like to do on their ballot, this makes your vote invalid. After all the votes are counted, the party that holds majority of the 151 seats in the house of representatives normally forms government. But sometimes, like back in 20 ten, neither of the major parties got to the magic number of 76 seats in the House of Representatives. That's when caretaker prime minister julia gillard made a deal with three non-allianceed independents.
