The Slave's Role in the Dining Room
Many of these kitchens were pretty small and lacked significant ventilation. There's also been some really interesting research done on the height of kitchen counters, or indeed the kitchen ovens that were quite low. The potential here is that you would be burning yourself. You could be injured with burns. And we read this in the literature, that the attendant to the dining room needed to be more olfactorily pleasing,. smelling nice, visually nice. That actually would excite the the diners er in various ways.
