The british control even more of the middle east than they did at the beginning. The emergence of an arab nationalist movement, which i guess reaches its peak in the 19 fifties and the 19 sixy where you get this wave ofa not just independence movements, but also movements driven by relatively radical and arab nationalist leaders. So the 19 50 19 sixties is a period of relative significant progressd in terms of improvements in the lives of ordinary people.
