The German, the official German memoir paints the first month after the war in dark colors. The more I researched these days, the more I discovered that the despair and joy were lying very close together. People were happy that they escaped the disaster and they wanted to express the joy of living. There was a real dance frenzy these days. Even some days after the end of the war, people start to dance again. They are looking for new adventures. And now that they are longing for new experiences, this is a very astonishing thing.
