Law Enforcement's Training in Seeing Who Isn't Reliable
In any unsolved case people are going to develop their own theories, law enforcement included and then use their discretion to determine what accounts are and are not credible. Sometimes they can warp their sense of reality to fit that theory that they've already formed in their head. So I think that when a law enforcement official writes someone off so callously like oh she's just crazy it's probably because it could be because what she's saying just doesn't align with his mentality toward the case or it could mean that she just isn't a reliable witness.
