The Dissolution of the Mayans Cities
Mayan society did not go away, but the cities were gradually abandoned. The main reason for this probably was, again, climate change. That the catan peninsula was becoming more intensely wet and tropical as the mediaeval war period began. It became impossible to maintain the kind of agriculture that had supported the mayan cities. After about 900 new urban societies start to arise farther to the west and northwest.
