i suppose it's because some of the especially the american military police that i interviewed from 61 at the time, were saying. There were many cases where east german border guards, or militia, mainly, would shout across to them with their russian made submachine guns. I think you 'uld find that the pupils would actually have had live ammunition, and i suspect, at that time, they might well have been prepared to use it. So the question, you know, was this the risk at was worth taking young? God, it's so difficult, isn't it, to say now? But maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, but it didn't happen. That
