Adrian maldenardo is a research fellow at the national museum of scotland. His work focuses on the early mediaeval period, which he calls the 'crucible of nations' He says it was this period that helped to create what we now call Scotland. But by the twelfth century, you couldn't tell a single story of the creation of one nation through objects in our museum,. All you can do is talk about the ferent nations that took shape in this period.
