Why Did Some Children Stop Going to School During the Great Depression?

High school gradute graduation rates actually went up in the great depression. Why? Because therere no jobs. So it made sense to stay in school. There was no reason to quit school early and go looking for work, because there wasn't any. My father was the first male in his family who was allowed to finish high school. And how did the great depression change american attitudes to welfare?
