There is a real sense on strategists from both parties that, yes, the Donald Trump was the only Republican who could have won in 2016. But if it's a different candidate, well, that's a different dynamic. There's no sense that Donald Trump is more popular now than he was in 2020. The Joe Biden won the first time anyway.
