The Dangers of Understanding the Gospel

How much of our understanding is influenced by the cultural moment that we're in, the theological battles that we're having? Is there a danger there that our understanding of this central tenant can be distorted because of all those swirling contexts? Oh, absolutely. That's the charge that's often made against the reformers. But I think they read the Bible correctly. It just happened to answer a whole lot of what the Roman Catholic Church was doing wrong then.
