Beverly sensed an evil presence in a nearby cave and investigated. You all entered the cave and Beverly unearthed a book with a powerful evil force. Whoever puts their name in here gets osmodius's powers but becomes a piece of shit. Balnor, do not read the book. He is off his rocker. That tree was suspiciously not affected by the crick rot and still quite alive. Moonshine tried to talk to it using speak with plants but all it said was, I'm sorry Jolene.
