Baccaccio described those who set out the pandemic peaceably, shut away with modest quantities of delicate foods and precious wines. But this summer migration wasn't always a fail safe plan. The chronicler from neuburg monastery reported how nobles and citizens seeking to escape death took themselves to safer places, but they had already been infected. And so in spite of their efforts, many were unable to es and died.
