Expectations for the S&P 500 in 2023
Last year, the S&P 500 was looking at earnings of like $2.23. This year, I would expect that earnings probably contract maybe just slightly, but I would expect them to contract for the full year. The sectors that are expected to add positively to that number are mostly cyclical. So if we head into something like an economic contraction, we probably lose some of the strength in those cyclical sectors.
