The Limits of Consciousness
The notion that animals don't have any awareness or of thoughts or feelings, is inconceivable. Where would we draw the line? It's an empirical question to which i have no satisfactory answer. I expect that the line is to be drawn way beyond the point when you attribute consciousness to stones. But for ethical purposes, whether something is conscious or not, er is the determining factor.
