There is a case to make that the Cold War would have ended if it wasn't for KGB operations in the West. The sheer scale of the KGB operation during the Cold War was so pervasive and huge and insidious, he says. Documents can show hundreds of millions of dollars poured out of the Soviet Union which should have been spent on feeding its people were actually used for disinformation. In around about 1987 there was a investigation into a particularly I would argue grotesque active measure a piece of disinformation by the KGB but Gorbachev refused to believe it.
