The Pathophysiology of Osteoid Osteopathy

The next most common location for an osteoid osteoma is the hand encompassing 5 to 10% of osteoids. Osteoid osteomas in the spine can cause postural scoliosis, as well as parovirtibil muscle spasm. As far as prognosis, pain from lesions usually resolves after an average of 3 years. The lesion spontaneously resolves in 5-7 years. Early resection that is within 18 months leads to resolution of scoliosis in young children defined as less than 11 years old.
