In the Bible, death is never natural. You could say it's always anti-natural. It is opposed to the nature that God himself has created within us. So death is not the end of life. Death is the enemy of life. And especially in the Old Testament then, when you have a dead one, himself or herself there, they become a source of defilement. By contact with that death, it's a contact with the enemy, not that person, but death itself. But that's a very different way of thinking about death from the standpoint of the day.
