I love when he comes to Sherman because I think in many ways he's sort of the antithesis of say like a Napoleon. And so one of my favorite biographies is B. H. Le Delhart's biography of Sherman and there's this passage where that line you just said is actually from. To someone like Sherman, his success in life was a sort of a source of constant surprise.
