The D.C. National Guard's Response to the Capitol Crisis
Chief of the National Guard Bureau, General Daniel Hukinson, said he was ignored for hours. He says Lieutenant General Walter Piot, director of the Army staff, said he could not recommend that his boss approve the request. "I have got to get boots on the ground," Chief Sun told CNN's Jake Tapper. When Secretary McCarthy did get the request, they took the National Guard forces from the D.C. National Guard that were on duty and brought them back to the Armory.
