For me the turning point with the war against Hitler is a replay of the Napoleon thing, it's his invasion of Russia. Both men were in similar situations where they had established dominance over the European continent and their two remaining foes were Great Britain which was protected by its navy and Russia. And in both cases, Napoleon and Hitler, they both make the decision to invade Russia and it goes completely wrong for both of them.
