Prudence crandall taught black girls at the canterbury school in Connecticut. After her husband died, she moved to elk falls kansas and opened another school. She became involved with the women's suffrage movement. In 18 86, under pressure fror mark twain to right the states in justice, the connecticut state legislature offered prudence a small pension as repayment for her mistreatment.
