The Importance of Service Discipline

The writer was offered a place at Sydney Sussex after two years national service. National service was the first time he began to mix with boys who were much cleverer than he was, and would be better taught. All of us ended up learning Russian at the Joint Services School based at Cambridge. Service discipline was kept to a minimum in order to facilitate us l as mine never was. I had never had a spellbinding teacher like this, and had to make my own way.
