The majority of early textiles are often plant base fibres. linen is a really tricky fibre to work with. You have to find a flax plant at the right stage of development. If it's too young, it won't be strong enough. And then you need to to break down the outer and the inner parts of the stem until you're left with a usable thread. This is a long and quite complicated process.
