The British Army in the Seven Years War
The tradition of local magnate power, the tradition of men volunteering in return for considerations of land was taken advantage of by those who recruited in 17 fifties. And havto say that helped subsequently, to recruit the highland regiments in the british service from the seven years war onwards. So it's actually a structure which, although the britISH government had changed the law, had removed rights of regality,. Those traditional loyalties still held in the later eighteenth century. They were very useful to the extensive recruitment of scotts and to thebritish army all the way up to the end of the napoleonic war.
