The Role of Music Therapy in Neurological Disorders

There's a lot of music therapy out there and it's highly valuable. I can think of patients who are suffering from certain forms of dementia, who may be less verbal or even nonverbal if you bring them into a studio and get them to either play an instrument or sing. There's this example of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords who had brain damage after being shot. Music therapy was a big part of getting her to the point where she could speak again. And so that's a traumatic brain injury that was recovered through music therapy. Just growing evidence, for example, that people who have certain types of anxiety can benefit from music therapy as well.
