The Transformation of the United States
The growth of the federal government from 1860 to 1865 to 1870 is just astronomically transformative. It's an incredibly transformative period of growth as well as diminishment. One of the real tragedies of American Indian policy is that many of the initial efforts by the federal government to build autonomous self-sufficient protectors and or enclaves within the body politic of the United States fall under the purview of various social reformers in the late 19th century.
