The Disconnection Between Humbert and Nabokov's Lolita
In a society where girls ascribe power and agency to their adherence to sexualized images of womanhood, it can be very validating. When you reread Lolita as a young woman, when you reread that scene about nymphettes, after you've idolized it as a young girl, there is that sensation of unfamiliarity, nothing is familiar. And I think within that gap of girlhood and womanhood between the first and the second reading, this is where I think abjection comes in.
